How much is 1 oz of palladium today?
1 troy ounce of palladium costs $1,139.40 today at the live spot ask, and we pay $1,128.20 when you sell an ounce to us. That is up $11.61 (+1.03%) from today's open, against a 52-week range of $1,125.40 to $2,079.03. Half an ounce is $569.70, a quarter ounce $284.85, a tenth $113.94, and ten ounces $11,394.00.
A 1 oz palladium coin or bar sells for the spot price plus a premium, so the price of a physical ounce is a little above the number here. See live prices for 1 oz palladium bars and the Palladium Maple Leaf. One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, about 10% heavier than a kitchen ounce. Updated .
What is the palladium spot price?
The palladium spot price is the price of one troy ounce of palladium for immediate settlement, quoted in U.S. dollars. It is the number every price on this site, in our shop and at every other dealer starts from. The figure at the top of this page is the live wholesale ask (the price to buy); the bid beside it is the price we pay when you sell palladium to us. Right now palladium is $1,139.40 an ounce, up $11.61 (+1.03%) from today's open.
How the palladium price is set
No single exchange sets it. Palladium trades over the counter between bullion banks, refiners and dealers around the clock, anchored by two public reference points: the LBMA benchmark auction in London and the futures contracts on the CME in New York. Dealers like Standard Bullion trade on live wholesale quotes derived from that market, which is why our price carries a bid and an ask instead of a single figure, and why it moves every few seconds while the market is open.
What moves the palladium price
Palladium is the most industrial of the four metals: more than 80% of demand goes into catalytic converters for gasoline engines. Its price therefore tracks global car production, emissions standards, and the pace at which carmakers substitute cheaper platinum back into catalysts. Supply is the other half of the story. Russia and South Africa together mine about three-quarters of the world’s palladium, and sanctions, export disruptions and mine problems in either can move the price sharply. The market is small and thinly traded, which amplifies every move. Electric vehicles, which need no catalyst, are the long-term headwind.
Palladium is the most volatile of the four metals, with annual ranges that would be extraordinary in gold. It is also the one most exposed to a single industry, which makes it a bet on the internal-combustion engine as much as on precious metals.
Palladium price per gram, ounce and kilo
Precious metals are priced in troy ounces (31.1035 grams), not the 28.35-gram ounce used for everything else. One gram of palladium is therefore the ounce price divided by 31.1035, currently $36.63, and a kilogram is 32.1507 troy ounces, currently $36,632.56. The table above converts the live price to grams, kilos, pennyweights and the common coin fractions so you can value a piece of any size at a glance.
Palladium price history
Palladium was an obscure by-product metal until the late 1990s, when Russian export disruptions sent it to a 2001 spike. It collapsed, then spent a decade under gold. From 2016 the tightening of gasoline-engine emissions rules created a structural deficit, and palladium overtook platinum in 2017 and gold in 2019 on the way to an all-time high in early 2022. It has retraced much of that since as substitution and EV adoption took hold. The chart carries monthly data from 1977, daily closes from 2011, and 15-minute intraday prices for the recent ranges.
Over the past year palladium has traded between $1,125.40 and $2,079.03. A year ago it was $1,481.76, a change of -23.11% to today. Its all-time high is $3,058.00, set in March 6, 2022. The performance table above gives the exact price one day, one week, one month, one year and five years ago.
Spot price vs. what you pay
Spot is raw metal in wholesale size. A coin or bar adds refining, minting, assay, distribution and the dealer's margin, and that difference is the premium. Palladium is minted in the smallest volumes of the four metals, so premiums are the widest and availability is the least reliable. One-ounce bars from major refiners are the standard investment product; the Canadian Palladium Maple Leaf is the most common coin. Expect a wider buy-back spread than gold or silver. Every product in our palladium bullion shop is priced live off this spot price plus its premium, and when you sell to us we pay a bid tied to the same feed.
How to read the palladium price chart
The chart above is spot only, drawn as an area or line: we do not show candlesticks because palladium has no single exchange volume behind it and a candle would imply data that does not exist. The 24H, 7D and 1M ranges use our own 15-minute captures; 3M to 25Y use daily closes; MAX reaches back to 1977 on monthly data. The moving-average buttons (20 to 200 days) are calendar-day averages, so a 200-day average means the same thing on every range. Hover or touch the chart for the exact price on any date, and use the custom range to compare any two dates.
Palladium price FAQ
How much is 1 oz of palladium today?
One troy ounce of palladium costs the live spot ask shown at the top of this page, refreshed every 15 minutes in the summary and every 15 seconds in the live price. A physical 1 oz palladium coin or bar costs that spot price plus a premium for minting and distribution. The summary also gives the price of a half, quarter and tenth ounce and of ten ounces.
What is the palladium spot price?
The palladium spot price is the price for one troy ounce of palladium for immediate delivery, quoted in U.S. dollars. It is the benchmark every dealer, refiner and exchange works from. The price at the top of this page is the live ask for palladium on Standard Bullion's wholesale feed; the bid is what we pay when you sell to us.
What is the palladium price today?
Today's palladium price is shown live at the top of this page and in the summary just below it, with the change from today's open, the 52-week range and the all-time high. The summary figures refresh every 15 minutes; the live price refreshes every 15 seconds while you have the page open.
How is the palladium spot price set?
There is no single palladium exchange. The spot price emerges from over-the-counter trading between banks, refiners and dealers, anchored by the LBMA benchmark auctions in London and by futures on the CME (COMEX/NYMEX) in New York. Our feed is the live wholesale price at which we can actually buy and sell metal, which is why it carries a bid and an ask rather than one number.
What is the difference between bid and ask?
The ask is the price to buy palladium from us; the bid is the price we pay to buy it from you. The gap between them is the spread, which is how the wholesale market prices liquidity. Both are shown on this page. Most published "palladium prices" are a mid or an ask only.
Why is the price of a palladium coin or bar higher than spot?
Spot is the price of raw metal in wholesale quantities. A coin or bar adds refining, minting, assay, distribution and dealer costs, plus the liquidity of a recognised product, and that difference is the premium.
How much is a gram of palladium?
One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so the price per gram is the ounce price divided by 31.1035. The table above shows the live gram and kilogram prices. Note that a troy ounce is heavier than the ordinary (avoirdupois) ounce of 28.35 grams; all precious-metals prices use troy ounces.
When does the palladium market trade?
Nearly around the clock. Trading opens Sunday evening U.S. Eastern time in Asia, follows the sun through London and New York, and closes Friday afternoon. Our live price updates whenever the wholesale market is open; over the weekend it holds Friday's close.
What are the 52-week high and low and the all-time high?
The 52-week range is the highest and lowest palladium price over the past year from our daily record, including today's intraday extremes. The all-time high is the highest price in our full history: daily closes since 2011 and monthly data back to 1977. All three are shown in the summary at the top of this page and recomputed every 15 minutes.
Why is palladium so volatile?
A small, thinly traded market with demand concentrated in one industry (gasoline autocatalysts) and supply concentrated in two countries (Russia and South Africa). Any change on either side, a sanction, a mine closure, a shift in car production, moves the price far more than the same news would move gold.
Can I get the palladium price as data or through an API?
Yes. The same live and historical palladium prices are published as JSON and plain text, as a history API, as an embeddable chart and as signed webhooks. See the Precious Metals Market Data page and the Gold Price API documentation. It is free with attribution.
Where does Standard Bullion's palladium price come from?
From the live wholesale pricing feed we trade on ourselves, captured every 15 minutes into our own price record for the charts and the daily history, with monthly data back to 1977 from published LBMA and USGS series. We do not scrape other dealers' prices.
Prices on this page are indicative live dealer quotes for information only and are not an offer to buy or sell. Data: Standard Bullion's own wholesale feed, daily record since 2011, and LBMA / USGS monthly series to 1977. Also available as market data and through the price API.
